Days after the forcible cutting of the hair of a Sikh youth sparked protests in Jaipur, another Sikh in Jamshedpur had his hair cut allegedly by policemen, officials said. Gurmukh Singh Mokhey was arrested with three of his friends on charges of beating up a truck driver and snatching over Rs 13,000 in the Olidih area last night, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police F K N Kujjur confirmed Mokhey's hair had been cut but denied that it had happened while he was in police custody at the Olidih police station.

Kujjur said an inquiry would be conducted to unearth the truth and the guilty would be punished. Sardar Shailendra Singh, president of the Central Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee, protested the incident and led a delegation to Supeintendent of Police Ashish Batra to demanding action against those responsible.

Denying the charge, the officer-in-charge of Olidih police station, N N Pandey, told reporters that Mokhey was trying to falsely implicate him as he had refused to provide him better facilities in a court cell when he was facing trial in a murder case in the past.
