A 50-member delegation comprising religious and community leader from Jammu and Kashmir called upon President A P J Abdul Kalam at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday.

The delegation, which is on a Bharat Darshan organised by the Indian Army, apprised the President of the problems being faced by people in the state. A Rashtrapati Bhavan source said that no major issues were discussed during the meeting.

During his interaction with the delegation, Kalam reiterated the need for involvement of the local people in the development of the state. The delegation took up issues like horticulture and the need for infrastructural development in the state.

The President had during his visit to the state last month advocated the creation of economic zones along the Line of Control.

"Presently the area close to the LoC is not used for agriculture at all. The state government in consultation with the army may consider allotting the land for horticulture and agriculture utilisation," he said.

The members of the delegation, who were drawn from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, interacted with the President for about 50 minutes, the source said.
