Security personnel deployed at the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly went into a tizzy today as a car driven by a youth allegedly in an inebriated condition hit the barricades outside the complex, official sources said.

Delhi businessman Akshay Khurana, who was with his Jammu-based girlfriend Shruti Sharma, paid no heed to the repeated signals of policemen at Jehangir Chowk in the heart of the city and hit the barricades erected along the main road leading to the legislature complex, the sources said. Police and paramilitary forces immediately swung into action and forced Khurana to stop the vehicle before he tried to speed away violating the no drive-zone established in view of the session of the assembly and council, they said.

The vehicle was checked thoroughly but no illegal substance was recovered from it. However, Khurana who was staying at Court Road area of Srinagar in a rented accommodation was found drunk and was subsequently whisked away by police to nearby Shaheedgunj police station alongwith Sharma.

Sources said the questioning of the duo revealed that they were not aware of the restrictions and intended to cross the main road to reach Badshah Chowk.
