G P Koirala was on Thursday appointed the prime minister of Nepal by King Gyanendra.

The king issued a proclamation appointing 81-year-old Koirala as prime minister after the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) sent his name to him for the post, state-owned Nepal Television said.
Koirala will be sworn in on Friday.
