Medical students to strike against quota

Students of five leading medical colleges in the New Delhi on Wednesday decided to go on a strike in protest against reservation of seats in elite educational institutions.

"At the moment it is an all out strike by students of AIIMS, Safdarjung, Maulana Azad Medical College, Lady Hardinge and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital," Amitasha Sinha, a medical student leader and spokesman of 'Youth for Equality', group told PTI.

She said they would continue their stir until they are allowed to meet HRD Minister Arjun Singh.  She said her colleagues would also be meeting resident doctors to get their support for the their strike call.

"Let us see if doctors also join us," Sinha, a student of Lady Hardinge Medical College said. The Resident Doctors Association at the hospital was also holding a meeting to draw up its future course of action. "We have not arrived at a decision but a meeting is on," Sumir Sethi, president of the association said.
