Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani has said that the United Progressive Alliance government, completing two years in power, is an epitome of ineptness and that it would not be a surprise if mid-term elections took place in the near future.
"If it stays to complete its full five-year term, then people would get to see some more follies that have become its hallmark," Advani, whose 'Bharat Suraksha Yatra' reached Pune on Monday evening, said while addressing a public meeting.
While the steering wheel of UPA Government was in the hands of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Communists (the UPA partner) are the accelerator and brakes respectively, the senior BJP leader said.
The future of the youth of the country was not safe in the hands of a government that was steeped in 'minorityism' and hell bent upon destroying even a fine institution like the armed forces of the country, Advani said.
The former BJP president said that he was forced to take out yatra mainly because of two important developments that shook him up.
The first one related to the Justice Sachar Committee's work to have a Muslim headcount done in the Armed Forces, which met with fierce opposition from the three chiefs of Indian defence force -- the Army, Navy and Air Force, Advani said.
The second incident came after the Congress and Communists who are partners at the Centre but were rivals fighting each other in the current assembly elections, passed a resolution in the Kerala assembly for releasing Madani, the prime accused in the Coimbatore serial blasts on parole.
Advani said that even the sub-committee under the chairmanship of Sardar Vallabhai Patel comprising Pandit Nehru and Dr B R Ambedkar set up immediately after the partition of the country had opposed doling out reservations on religious lines, but the UPA government was continuing with its policies of minority appeasement, Advani said.
The Congress government in Andhra Pradesh announced reservations for Muslims in the state but it was struck down by the high court. The IMDT Act in Assam got a similar response. The decision to accord reservation in Aligarh Muslim University too was quashed by the high court but the Congress did not stop its policies of minority appeasement, the BJP leader said.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi had been following her minority appeasement policy because someone has instilled in her mind that the decline of the Congress had started with the Muslims moving away from the party, Advani said, adding that he wanted to tell the Muslims that the Congress did not stand for their development but their votes.
