The CBI Tuesday filed charges in the special court against Monica Bedi, companion of extradited gangster Abu Salem, alleging criminal conspriacy in the fake passport case.
Charges were also framed against five others belonging to Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh for their role in Bedi acquiring the passport by providing false information.
While Bedi was charged under Section 120 of Indian Penal Code, under which a person can be awarded a maximum punishment of life term, other five, all government employees, were booked for violating the Passport Act.
Bedi was arrested on charges of securing a fake passport in 2001 with a fictitious address in Kurnool and has been in judicial remand since November 12.
Meanwhile, Special Judge for CBI C V Subramanyam extended judicial remand of Bedi till April 18.
