Accusing the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of failing to implement its promise to bring various castes like Oddar, Boyar, Bandi and Godda under one single caste, the Uzhaippalar Munnetra Kazhakam (Workers' Progressive Front) on Monday said it will work for the AIADMK's defeat in the assembly elections.

Front general secretary P Lenin said the people belonging to these castes, once coming under one single caste, were engaged in all types of construction related works and always supported the AIADMK.

The ruling party had promised to bring these people under one caste -- as was done in Karnataka -- and including Bhovi in the Scheduled Caste list when hundreds of workers staged an indefinite fast on October 3 at Chennai, he said.

However, the party had failed to fulfill its promise and in view of this, it was decided to work for the AIADMK's defeat.

The party will also field own candidates in 30 constituencies to show the strength of the caste, Lenin said.

Asked why it did not extend support to the DMK-led opposition, Lenin said the workers belonging these castes had always stood behind the AIADMK and the decision was taken to "teach a lesson to that party for forgetting its promise."

Releasing the list of candidates for six constituencies in Coimbatore district, Lenin said the candidates for Erode, Perambalur, Chennai and Cuddalore would be announced shortly.
