A total of 92,07,512 voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the first phase of Assam Assembly polls on Monday.
Voting will be held in 9723 polling stations in 65 constituencies spread over 14 districts.
In all, 545 candidates are in the fray, including those in Upper Assam's tea belt, ULFA-affected areas and minorities strong hold in Barak Valley districts of southern Assam.
The Election Commission control room in Guwahati informed that the six recognised parties accounted for almost 50 per cent of the total candidates in the fray.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is fielding 65 candidates, the Congress 64, the Asom Gana Parishad 54, the Nationalist Congress Party 25, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India-Marxist eight each.
Algapur constituency in the Barak Valley has the highest number of candidates in the fray -- 25.
Titabor in Jorhat district, where Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is contesting, has the lowest number a mere four candidates -- in the fray.
The EC said elaborate security arrangements have been made, with 300 additional companies of paramilitary forces arriving in the state.
Besides the police and paramilitary forces, personnel of the Village Defence Force will also be used at some polling stations to help voters outside the polling booths.
