Central Bureau of Investigation Director Uma Shankar Misra admitted in a press conference at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi on Friday that the information about the raids on corrupt officials was prematurely leaked and some of those whose houses had been raided, managed to remove cash and documents from their offices and residences.

Nationwide CBI raids: Several cases registered

"We have arrested a constable in our own office in Mumbai for leaking information of the impending raids against corrupt officials. We have some officers of doubtful integrity and a watch is being kept on them. It is the strength of the CBI that it can conduct raids against its own officials as and when the need arises," he said.

On reports that some news channels received advance information about the raids and that officials had leaked information, instructing the channels to run the story from 7 in the morning, the CBI director said, "If what you are telling me is true, then I would take strict action against the concerned official and if need be, we would even suspend him."

Misra refused to comment when asked as to how many officers of doubtful integrity were there in the organization.
