As many as 107 terrrorists have been killed so far this year in Jammu and Kashmir, indicating an increase in the infiltration bids from across the Line of Control, defence sources said.

Despite the clear guarantees given by Pakistani authorities that this activity would be curbed, the intensity of infiltration attempts was on the increase, clearly indicating that "the promise has been broken," they told PTI.

Summer months have been harbingers of hectic activity in jehadi camps across the border ever since the inception of
terrorism, they said, adding that large number of terrorists have prepared for infiltration and groups have moved to suitable launching pads.

No infiltration into J&K: Pak

However, the fencing along the LOC had imposed severe restriction on infiltration from across and attempts were being foiled with tremendous loss to the perpetrators, the sources said.

They said that the high rate of casualities and almost zero rate of success had by no means deterred the intensity of attempts and that despite the phenomenal loss of life, terrorists continued to make attempts along Rajouri and Poonch
districts and the Valley.

Sudden spurt in infiltration: Army

Major infiltration bids were foiled in Gurez belt of Kupwara district and Poonch district along the LOC.

"It is surprising that these men agree to face certain death before even reaching their destination and this desperation became even more perceptible with the suicidal bid at Gurez," they said.

The controllers were well aware that chances of success were remote, even if infiltration bids had gone undetected, as
the weather would have taken toll to a large number of infiltrators.

'Infiltration likely to increase in J&K'

"There was no possibility of ten per cent of those infiltrated reaching the valley alone," the sources said.

It would not be far fetched to deduce that they are ill informed about the actual position on the ground and are unaware of the risks involved, the sources said.

Infiltration is continuing in J&K: Prasad

"In other words, these infiltrators are unwitting cannon fodder for the desperation that Inter Services Intelligence
(ISI) of Pakistan is facing in reinforcing its fast depleting strength in the valley," they said, adding that new mechanisms were in place to ensure that the menace was eliminated in totality.
