India on Tuesday briefed Iran on the reasons for supporting the International Atomic Energy Agency resolution on Tehran's controversial nuclear programme and made it clear that it has no reservation on peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

During a meeting Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran had with Iranian ambassador S Z Yaghoubi, it was explained that New Delhi's vote for the resolution was aimed at averting a major confrontation between Iran and the international community.

The Iranian envoy expressed disappointment over the resolution saying that it was "not logical".

It is politcal in nature and approved because of "some pressure", an Iranian embassy spokesman quoted Yaghoubi as having told Saran.
