Two top militants of Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami, including its deputy district commander, were killed in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, official sources said.
Acting on a tip-off, a search and cordon operation was launched by the army in Nowapachi belt of Kishtwar tehsil, the sources said. The operation led to a fierce gunbattle between militants and troops following which, the two militants were killed around 0630 hours, they said.
The slain militants have been identified as deputy district commander of HuJI, Mohammad Musafir Kandy, and Imtiyaz, they said, adding the encounter was still on when the last reports came in.
One AK rifle, one sniper rifle, 303 rifle, 12 grenades, 150 rounds, three magazines, one radio set and some explosives were recovered from the site, the sources added.
