Nepal's royal government on Wednesday alleged that Maoists were continuing to indulge in violence despite announcing ceasefire and asked the rebels to prove sincerity of their intention by giving up arms.

"The government is not sure about the authenticity of the Maoists' truce in view of the past experiences of breach of
such ceasefire by them," Assistant Minister for Population and Health Neekshya Shumsher Rana said.

There is no reason to be assured of their announcement "unless they prove its authenticity and present themselves
in practice by laying down their weapons and putting an end to the terrorist activities for good."

"The terrorists are still giving continuity to their inhumane activities by carrying out cases of looting, abduction, scuffle and bloodshed," he said adding that the government will also take "positive" initiative provided they put an end to the bloodshed and truly present themselves in practical terms, reports state run The Rising Nepal.

Meanwhile, Muktiram Dahal, Maoist president Pushpakamal Dahal alias Prachanda's father and Nanda Kumari Thapa, mother of Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa "Badal" have urged the guerillas to lay down arms and come to the peace talks, reports state-run National News Agency RSS.

Maoist leader Prachanda on Saturday offered a 3-month truce to create an atmosphere of talks with political parties.
