Alleging that Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence was encouraging 'extremism' in madrassas along the India-Nepal border, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday demanded a legislation to regulate the functioning of such institutions.

"It is a matter of serious concern for the country that suspicious activities promoting extremism are going on in some of the madrassas in the border districts of India.

There is also evidence of ISI's direct involvement in these activities," BJP National Vice President Mukthar Abbas Naqvi said at the national executive of BJP Minority Morcha held in New Delhi.

"While we are not against the madrassas committed towards producing excellence, the country will have to take purposeful action against those that are not doing so," he said.

Naqvi said madrassas in Pakistan were fast converting to breeding grounds of extremist activities with patronage from ISI. Even the government there does not have any control on the madrassas. He said, "The ISI is a super government there."

The BJP vice president also said some terrorist forces were misusing Islam as a 'cloak to cover their evil design and actions'.

He said there would be no respite from terrorist activities across the globe, until Pakistan dismantles ISI completely.
