India and Russia on Thursday reviewed progress in bilateral relations, including in defence and energy sectors, and discussed the forthcoming visits of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Moscow.

External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh who called on Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, also reviewed progress on the India-Russia inter-governmental commission, an external affairs ministry spokesman said.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the IRIGC and lasted an hour and 15 minutes.

The one-on-one was followed by delegation-level talks, the spokesman added.

"They made an overall review of the bilateral relations. A review was also made of the India-Russia inter-government commission defence relations and cooperation in energy sector,'' he said.

They said they were also open to cooperation at the political level.
