Union Minister of State for Water Resources and senior Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav was found involved in 'illegal release' of his brother and RJD candidate for Jamui assembly seat Vijay Prakash, who was arrested for creating trouble during polls.

Jamui district Deputy Superintendent of police A K Pandey, supervising the case in relation to arrest and subsequent release of Vijay Prakash, said that Union Minister Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav was involved in putting pressure for his release.

Yadav's brother Vijay Prakash was arrested by Jamui's superintendent of police Arvind Kumar on Tuesday. Police also recovered firearms, liquor and cash from Prakash's vehicle that was seized by police. But Mukteshwar Prasad, the officer in charge of Khaira police station, released him late on Tuesday night without consulting Kumar.

Pandey in his supervising report submitted to Kumar said both Yadav and Prasad were involved in the release of Prakash. Yadav along with his large number supporters reached the police station where Prakash was kept after arrest and pressurised the officer in charge Prasad to release his brother and two others from custody.

"The officer In charge Prasad succumbed to the pressure of the central minister and released he arrested person without taking permission from his senior officers, despite the fact that they were booked under non-bailable sections of the Indian Panel Code," Pandey said.

He further said that the arrested persons including Prakash were not found in the lock up during his visit to the police station. A police complaint was lodged against Yadav for securing 'illegal release' of his brother Prakash.

Taking note of the seriousness of the matter, the Election Commission on Wednesday transferred inspector general of police (Bhagalpur zone) N.C. Dhondiyal.
