Uttar President Congress chief Salman Khursheed was on Sunday prohibited from visiting riot-hit Mau where curfew is in force.
He was not allowed to move out of his house to go to Mau for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation, Congress sources said.
The Mau city magistrate in his order said stated that since prohibition orders were in force due to the curfew, there were chances that Khursheed's visit could have an adverse impact on the peace and order and prohibited his entry in the town, Congress sources said.
Principal Secretary (Home) Alok Sinha said the local administration has already requested leaders of various political parties not to visit the town as it could effect adversely ongoing efforts in restoring peace and order.
The Congress leader could seek the permission afresh within two days and the administration could take a decision on it in view of the situation at that point of time, he said.
Khursheed has decided to give two days time to the Mau authorities to allow him to visit the town. "If he is not given permission to visit Mau soon, the party will chalk out its future course of action," the party sources added.
