Curfew continued in trouble-torn Mau town for the eighth consecutive day on Saturday with force deployment being strengthened in areas where minor incidents were reported on Friday.
No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the town since Thursday night, when two shops were set ablaze and four youths trying to create disturbance were arrested from different parts of the town, police sources said.
The situation was fast returning to normal, they said. However, police deployment has been reinforced in certain areas as a precautionary measure.
Security forces were continuing round-the-clock vigil in all sensitive areas and efforts were on to arrest people involved in clashes, which had rocked the town last Thursday over Dussehra festivities.
Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar is on a visit to the town on Saturday to asses the situation, sources said, adding he would be holding a meeting with the district officials to take stock of the situation.
