After 26 days in captivity, Bihar's kidnapped schoolboy Gaurav Kumar, alias Golu, walked to freedom Sunday saying he gave a slip to his abductors even as the police claimed the kidnappers released him on its pressure.

Sitting in the lap of his father Anil Kumar Singh, nine-year-old Golu told mediamen at his home that he saw the kidnappers sleeping, took advantage of the situation and escaped from their captivity around midnight.

The class IV student of the local DAV school said that after breaking free from his abductors he reached Varanasi railway station on inquiring its location from a few local people and took a train to reach Hajipur.

At Hajipur, he was sighted by a Reserve Police Force constable who informed his family about him.

Earlier, the police had claimed that faced with intense police pressure, the kidnappers had put Golu on a train at Gazipur in Uttar Pradesh from where he reached Hajipur.

Zonal Inspector General of Police A S Nimbran told reporters early in the day that no ransom was paid and the abductors had released Golu under mounting police pressure.

Golu's family took him to Mahavir temple near Patna railway junction to offer prayers.

Joy returned to Golu's home at Gola road under Danapur police station after more than three weeks of gloom and his brothers and sister and others hugged him repeatedly.
