A public interest litigation has been filed in the Jammu and Kashmir high court complaining of inaction or delayed action by the state government in carrying out relief operations in the quake-ravaged areas.
A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice B A Khan and Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir on Saturday granted a week's time to the state government to submit a comprehensive report on the issues raised in the PIL.
Notice was also issued to the central government to submit a report of the relief operations conducted by the army.
Mohammad Akbar Khan and H S Thakur, both advocates, filed the PIL on Friday in which they alleged that the injured were being charged ambulance fee between Rs 300 and Rs 1500 for shifting them to Srinagar hospitals and government was doing nothing to reach some areas beyond Tangdhar to provide relief to the affected people.
Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya submitted an affidavit in the court stating that 49 ambulances had been placed at the disposal of survivors in Uri and Tangdhar sectors. Besides, a number of medical teams are engaged in relief operations.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party Hashim Qureshi has submitted an affidavit to supplement the PIL through its counsel.
The DLP called for involvement of army in relief and rehabilitation of the affected people and immediate despatch and distribution of necessary life saving material to the quake-affected areas.
