The Election Commission has ordered that polling will not be taken up in booths that do not have adequate deployment of security personnel during the Bihar Assembly elections.

The EC has also ordered extensive video filming at polling stations to detect bogus voters against whom stringent action would be taken, Chief Electoral Officer N K Sinha said on Saturday.

He said though the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police would be responsible for force deployment, two Additional Director Generals of Police would supervise the exercise.

"Electronic voting machines would be handed over to the poll personnel only at those polling stations where there would be deployment of security forces," Sinha said adding para-military forces would be stationed at almost all sensitive booths but they would not not examine the identification documents, which would be scrutinised strictly by polling staff.

The CEO said about 600 companies of para-military personnel would be deployed for the first phase of polling in 57 constituencies in Naxalite-hit Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Gaya, Arwal, Nawada and Banka districts on October 18.

Earlier, polling was scheduled in 61 constituencies in the first phase but was postponed for October 21 in Gaya (town), Gaya (mufassil), Bodh Gaya and Belaganj in order to facilitate effective deployment of central para-military forces.

Sinha said 1500 cameras would be used to keep an eye on bogus voters during the first phase of polling.

Meanwhile, an election control room has been set up at Raj Bhavan to enable Governor Buta Singh be updated about poll-related developments. It headed by an Additional Secretary ranked officer of the Home Department, official sources said.
