Chakoti, the last Pakistan occupied Kashmir post connecting Jammu and Kashmir, suffered extensive damage with about half its population of 12,000 suffering casualties, a report on Thursday said.
The report refutes Pakistan Army spokesman Maj Gen Sultan's assertion that areas around the LoC suffered less than other parts of PoK.
Chakoti and surrounding areas have been considerably damaged with over 6,500 people either killed or wounded even as the airlift of the injured to hospitals outside by helicopters began on Thursday, BBC television network reported.
Chakoti played crucial role in the ongoing Indo-Pak peace process as it connected 'Aman Setu'-- the peace bridge from PoK and was the first post for the passengers arriving by the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service.
