The Jammu and Kashmir government Thursday said there was no danger of epidemic or water-borne diseases in the quake-hit areas of Uri and Tangdhar.

"There is no danger of epidemic or water-borne diseases in the quake-affected areas of the state as medical teams are monitoring the hygiene conditions there," an official spokesman said after a high-level meeting chaired by state Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya in Srinagar.

Six Central Public Health Engineering teams are also camping in the quake-affected areas and 10 tonnes of bleaching powder was made available, he said.

Two rigs have been made functional at Uri to dig tube wells for providing drinking water while one rig is being sent to Tangdar, he added.

The injured persons admitted to in various hospitals of the city were being discharged gradually and those unable to return would be temporarily accommodated in a youth hostel in Srinagar.
