A strong aftershock rattled Jammu and Kashmir, especially Uri and Tangdhar areas, in the small hours on Thursday, triggering panic among survivors of the massive quake that claimed over a 1000 lives last Saturday.

The Met Department in Srinagar said the tremor, measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale, occurred at 0153 hours on Thursday. It classified the quake, whose epicentre lay in Pakistan, as moderate.

The aftershock, the strongest since the monster quake, forced survivors in Uri and Tangdhar sectors, rush out of their tents.

Over 1300 people lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir in the weekend quake and the region has been experiencing a series of aftershocks.
