An armed youth was arrested from Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's election rally in Purnea on Thursday afternoon.
A senior police official told rediff.com over the phone that the police had arrested a suspected youth Raj Kumar Mehta and recovered a countrymade revolver from him. "We arrested him when police officials suspected his behaviour and were shocked to find that he was carrying a countrymade revolver," he said.
According to police sources, when Lalu Yadav after addressing the election meeting reached his helipad, a youth entered the security barricade. The police suspected something wrong and without delay overpowered him.
However, Lalu Yadav was soon surrounded by security personnel and taken to his helicopter. He left for Katihar to address another election meeting.
After he was arrested, the police took him to police district headquarters for interrogation.
Police officials said that during initial interrogation the arrested youth said he was a resident of a village nearby Purnea and pleaded his innocence. The police however will interrogate him to know his intentions and how and why he entered the barricade.
