Two Indian Air Force specialist skydivers Squadron Leaders Kamal Singh Oberh and KBS Sambyal have become the first Indians to undertake base jumps from the Petronas tower building in Kuala Lumpur.
Oberh and Sambyal carried out 10 successful base-jumps from the tower on September 30, October 1 and 2, along with skydivers from 12 countries. Oberh is no stranger to daredevil skydiving, having already skydived over the North Pole and Antartica.
"Though I have over 700 skydives to my credit, including a jump over North Pole, this was the most challenging jump of my life. The challenge was of jumping from a towering skyscraper over a concrete jungle with no standby or reserve chute," he said of his experience.
After his hair-raising jump from the Kuala Lumpur tower, Oberh now plans to base-jump from the steep cliffs off Kjerag mountains in Norway.
