Noted Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Singhvi has admitted that there were lapses in the presidential order that led the honourable Supreme Court of India to quash the dissolution of the Bihar state assembly as unconstitutional.
He, however, refused to admit that the court verdict had come as a set back to the United Progressive Alliance government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"We admit that the court verdict has come as a setback, but we would have to wait for the reasoned detailed order to find out as to what led the court to come to this conclusion," he said.
Singhvi dismissed the Bharatiya Janata Party's claim that following the court verdict, Governor of Bihar Buta Singh should be recalled immediately. "You know that the elections of Bihar are on. In this political climate, they would like to gain maximum mileage by making such statements. If you go by the verdict of the Supreme Court, they have not passed any order against the governor of Bihar," he said.
He did not think that the order of the apex court would have any impact on the elections in Bihar.
