An non resident Indian Mayor has urged British Prime Minister Tony Blair to take up with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, the case of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national on death row in Pakistan.

Mayor of Hounslow Darshan Grewal told PTI in London on Wednesday night that he had personally handed over a memorandum to Blair in this connection on Tuesday, saying Sarabjit had already served 15 years in prison without any evidence of his involvement in any terrorist activity.

"During the trial, no witness has identified him as being responsible for the act he has been charged with," Grewal said.

"It has been proved beyond any doubt that Sarbjit Singh is a victim of mistaken identity," he stated in the memorandum.

Grewal, who had recently visited India said he was approached by Sarabjit's family members, including his 16-year-old daughter and his sister, Dalbir Kaur, seeking help to secure his release.

Stating that he did not condone violence or any terrorist act, Grewal urged Blair to "take up this matter with Musharraf, to re-consider and release Sarabjit on humanitarian grounds."
