In what can prove to be a major embarrassment for law enforcement agencies in Bihar, absconding Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament Mohammad Shahabuddin reportedly appeared for the LLB examination on Thursday conducted by Bihar University at Muzaffarpur despite a nationwide alert for his arrest.

DIG (Thirhut range) Gupteshwar Pandey on Saturday said he had ordered an inquiry into the incident by Muzaffarpur SP Ratan Sanjay. He also asked the SP to submit a report as early as possible.

Shahabuddin appeared for the examination in Muzaffarpur's RDS College on Thursday as a candidate from S K Memorial Silver Jubilee Law College, Muzaffarpur. But police was not aware about his presence and the RJD MP disappeared unnoticed.

The controller of examination, invigilators and other university and college authorities, tasked with holding the test, will be questioned and appropriate action will be taken against the guilty, Pandey said.

The Bihar police had last month sounded a nation-wide alert for Shahabuddin, who is evading arrest in a number of cases related to seizure of illegal firearms, unaccounted foreign currency, stolen vehicles and a deer during a raid at his Pratappur house in Siwan district on April 24 this year.
