No move to make Salem approver: CBI

Putting all speculation to rest, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday said there was no move to make extradited underworld don and main accused in 1993 Mumbai [ Images ] bomb blasts case Abu Salem [ Images ] an approver.

"There is no confusion and there should be no confusion over this. I do not know from where the rumours started about him turning an approver. He is a main accused," CBI Director U S Misra told reporters after inaugurating the DNA laboratory at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi [ Images ].

About the confessional statement made by the underworld don and whether the agency was contemplating to take any further action on this, Misra said, "About his confessional statement, I will not like to divulge anything as the concerned court has asked the CBI not to reveal anything about the case. All I can say is that investigations are going in the right direction."

Asked about the allegation made by Salem's girlfriend and little-known Bollywood actress Monica Bedi [ Images ] that she was in illegal confinement of the underworld don, the CBI Director said that the matter was being investigated.
