The Madras High Court Thursday directed the Tamil Nadu Director General of police to file a report pertaining to demonstrations in the state against actresses Khushboo and Suhasini.

Giving the order on a Public Interest Litigation filed by advocate Surya Prakash for a direction to the police to stop demonstrations, which were hindering normal life in the state, a division bench, comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice F M Ibrahim Kallifulla, wondered how the demonstrations were taking place in the state where women were known to be safe.

The judges posted the petition for further hearing on December 2. Stating that he was not filing the petition in favour of the actresses, the petitioner made it clear that he was only keen on ensuring that normal life was not disrupted.

Khushboo came in for severe criticism from certain quarters, including the Pattali Makkal Katchi, for her remarks on pre-marital sex, while Suhasini is also being criticised for supporting Khushboo.
