Government will make a statement in Parliament on Friday on the killing of Border Roads Organisation driver Maniyappan Raman Kutty by Taliban in Afghanistan.

Government would ensure safety of all Indian people working in Afghanistan, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed told reporters in New Delhi. "Government has done everything it can to rescue Kutty but unfortunately we could not save his life," he said.

Ruling out any laxity on the part of the government, he said necessary steps were taken in consultation with Afghanistan administration to ensure security of Indians working on various reconstruction projects in Afghanistan.

Members from Kerala, cutting across party lines, had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday and sought a statement in the House on the killing of Kutty.
