Triumphant over his thumping victory in the Malwan Assembly by-election, Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Congress candidate Narayan Rane Tuesday demanded that Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray resign, owning moral responsibility for defeat of party candidate Parshuram Uparkar's from the constituency.
"The Sena is finished in this region. It is not Uparkar who lost the deposit, it is Uddhav Thackeray who has lost. Almost all Sena leaders came to campaign (here), but they still could not save the Sena candidate's deposit," Rane told reporters.
He attributed his win to party president Sonia Gandhi, the 10 Sena legislators who sided with him after his expulsion from the saffron party and his workers in the region.
Replying to a question, he said the Sena MLAs with him would resign from the party, but refused to elaborate further.
