Gangster Abu Salem, who is currently in Central Bureau of Investigation's custody, fears for his life, his lawyer Ashok Sharogi told the media on Wednesday.

Sharogi, who met Salem for an hour at the Central Bureau of Investigation headquarters in South Mumbai Wednesday afternoon, said his client feared that his rivals in the underworld would eliminate him.

The lawyer said Salem also denied his involvement in the Mumbai bomb blasts of 1993, for which he is being prosecuted. Salem said he knew film personalities, but did not mention actor Sanjay Dutt by name, Sharogi added.

The lawyer said Salem was being looked after well, and that his mother will be visiting him shortly.

This was Sharogi's first meeting with Salem since the latter was extradited from Portugal last week.
