After more than 10 days, a moderate aftershock hit quake-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir early Wednesday morning, triggering panic among survivors of the catastrophic October 8 temblor.
Indian Meteorological Department officials said the 4.5 magnitude aftershock had its epicenter at 35.1 degree north latitude and 75.5 degree east longitude in Pakistan.
The aftershock occurred at 0756 hrs, they added.
However, no casualties or damage to property were reported so far.
Terrified people rushed out of their houses as the earth shook.
Reports from the worst-hit Uri and Tangdhar areas said the tremor caused terror-stricken survivors to scramble out of their tents and makeshift shelters in alarm.
The last aftershock that rocked the quake-ravaged state was on November 6.
More than 100 aftershocks, including 65 with moderate intensity, have been recorded so far since the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Jammu and Kashmir and its adjoining areas on October 8 morning, killing tens of thousands of people and rendering millions homeless.
The IMD officials said 65 aftershocks with above 5 magnitude on the Richter scale have been recorded since October 8.
However, they said no aftershock with magnitude over 6 on the Richter scale was recorded in the state so far.
The officials said all the 65 aftershocks could be categorised under the moderate category as they were between 5 and 6 magnitude on the Richter scale.
Besides several minor shocks could not be recorded due to overlapping, they added.
