A local court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to film actress Khushboo, who is at the centre of a controversy for her remarks on pre-martial sex, after she surrendered before a judicial magistrate.
Granting her bail, the judicial magistrate-II, S Sridharan, directed that she deposit Rs 5,000 as surety and also not give interviews to the media about the matter. Khushbhoo's brother deposited the amount, as directed by the court.
The magistrate then adjourned the case to December 16. The bail was opposed by the advocate for the petitioner Murugan, but the magistrate granted it.
Khushboo, who had approached the court on Tuesday to surrender, was told by court officials to present herself on Wednesday, as the magistrate was not present.
On November 11, the magistrate had issued a non-bailable warrant against the actress for her failure to appear in court in connection with a defamation suit filed against her for her remarks.
Meanwhile, PMK and Dalit Panthers of India volunteers held demonstrations outside the court complex against the actress demanding her arrest. As the actress was leaving in a car, some volunteers even threw chappals and tried to move towards the vehicle, but were prevented by the police.
