The Jammu and Kashmir police has got a vital clue regarding the identity of the militants responsible for the car bomb blasts Wednesday at the Dalgate area of the city in which three people died and 44 others were wounded.

A senior police officer said that a special team, set up to investigate the blast, has achieved a breakthrough in the case.

We visited a number of hospitals and talked to injured persons who gave us first hand account about the blast, he said.

In reply to a question, he said some clues were received from the injured persons about the militant who triggered the blast in the car before running away from the scene.

The officer said work on the clues received has already been started and teams have been rushed to different directions to nab the militants responsible for the blast.

We have got some clues about the militants who triggered the blast in the car seconds after he abandoned it, he said.

The offficial said the Pakistan based Lashker-e-Tayiba or Jaish-e- Mohammad could be behind the blast.

However, no militant outfit has so far claimed responsiblity for the blast.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force told reporters that a white Maruti car was used to cause the blast.

He said as per reports, a Maruti car stopped on the opposite side of the headquarters of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank main gate. But before the CRPF patrol party personnel could react, the driver ran away and there was a major blast.

The entire area was immediately cordoned off and searches are being conducted. However, no one was arrested, he said and added, the number of the car used in the blast by the militants is not known.

Militants are often using stolen cars for carrying out blasts and fidayeen attacks in the Valley.
