The CBI will not seek attachment of a palatial house suspected to have been built in Sarai Meer town of Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district using the extradited gangster Abu Salem's slush money as the house was not owned by Salem, CBI sources said on Tuesday.

The palatial house has come up opposite Salem's old house in the town and it is suspected that the money was pumped in by Salem through his ill-gotten wealth, the sources told PTI in Mumbai.

However, they said Salem's family owns large property and land in Sarai Meer town and the present house was not in the name of the joint family of Salem.

CBI sources said Salem, perhaps, does not have any bank account in India from what has come up from the interrogation so far.

However, the Department of Economic Affairs of the Finance Ministry was likely to probe into the money matters of Salem. The probe would also find out if he had pumped in money in the country through illegitimate sources like 'hawala', the sources added.

On Monday, CBI sources had hinted that central intelligence agencies might join them in interrogating Salem on aspects other than his role in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts.
