Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday slammed the United Progressive Alliance government for adopting a soft policy towards the Naxalities, which they claimed encouraged the rebels to attack the jail in Jehanabad merely 52 kilometers away from Patna and free over three hundred prisoners.

Speaking to rediff.com, party spokesman Prakash Javdekar said the incident clearly showed that there was total breakdown of law and order in the state and there was a complete failure of the intelligence network.

"The incident could not have taken place had there been enough intelligence inputs. The district administration watched the developments helplessly as the Naxals went on a rampage," Javdekar said.

"The UPA government has abandoned hard policies adopted by the National Democratic Alliance government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the Naxal issue under pressure from the Communists. This is totally anti-national and it threatens the security of the nation," he warned.
