Top officials of the Delhi police are tightlipped about the arrest of Ghulam Mohammed Mohiuddin Lone who was detained by the Rashtriya Rifles while he was moving in suspicious circumstances in Bannihal in Jammu and Kashmir.
After interrogation by the joint intelligence cell in Jammu, he was handed over to a Delhi police team investigating the October 29 serial bomb blasts in which 62 people lost their lives and over 150 people were injured.
"We have nothing to say at the moment," Ravi Pawar, public relations officer of the Delhi police, told rediff.com on phone in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Lone, a Hizbul Mujahiddin operative, was in the capital during the blasts and was well acquainted with various places in Delhi.
According to intelligence reports, he met three Lashkar-e-Tayiba operatives in Sanjay Transport Nagar, a place where he had previously worked with a transport agency. Two of them were Kashmiri while the third was an Urdu speaking person.
"We are screening the persons picked up by the Jammu and Kashmir police and trying to reach the culprits through the process of elimination," said a top police official.
Gopal Sharma, director general of Jammu and Kashmir police, said that it was too early to say whether Lone was involved in the Delhi blasts or not.
"We have arrested the man, but at the moment it would be difficult to say anything specific regarding his involvement," Sharma told rediff.com from his office in Srinagar.
