A group of young American political leaders comprising both Democrats and Republicans interacted with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday.

The nine-member delegation of American Council of Young Political Leaders called on the chief minister at her office and discussed issues related to democratic system, education, functioning of the government, city infrastructure, brain-drain, healthcare and developmental activities, officials said.

The purpose of visit by the Parliamentarians, led by two women politicians -- Democrat Lori Kreloff and Republican Beth Cubriel -- was to enrich the exchange programme and allow young American leaders to interact with their Indian counterparts.

Dikshit told the visitors that the capital was developing into a hub of advanced health centre, but faces various challenges because of influx of people and multiplicity of authorities.

She underlined the importance of the Right to Information Act, Bhagidari movement, Metro Rail, better roads and flyovers and housing for the poor. The Council is a non-profit organisation, which promotes international exchange programme amongst current and future political leaders.
