The controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal member Mohammed Shahabuddin will be produced in the Siwan district court on Monday after he was brought to Patna following his arrest in connecton with the eight criminal cases lodged against him.
Shahabuddin was taken to Siwan by road from Patna to be produced in court. He is a member from Siwan, which is his home district.
Shahabuddin would be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate there in connection with the cases against him, Deputy Inspector General (Administration) S K Singhal said.
Shahabuddin was arrested from his official residence in New Delhi on Saturday after evading arrest for over two months. The Bihar police issued a nation wide alert for his arrest in August after it was accused of going soft on him.
The Siwan district administration had requested the chief secretary G S Kang that Shahabudin should not be kept in Siwan jail and should be immediately taken back to Patna after he has been produced in court.
After he was brought Patna he spent Sunday night in lock up at Kotwali police station here after his bail plea was rejected in New Delhi.
Why should I surrender?
Siwan district magistrate S K Mall in his letter to state Home Secretary H C Sirohi requested for reopening of nine cases in which Shahabuddin had been enlarged on bail due to non appearance of witnesses, or witnesses turning hostile. Mall said that reopening of such cases were necessary to restore the credibility of judicial procedures and allow the law to take its course.
Mall had also requested for trial of Shahabudin in 33 other cases outside the Siwan district so that witness could testify without fear.
