The Delhi [ Images ] police on Friday nabbed the 'prime suspect' Ajit (30) in the gangrape of a Delhi University student, official sources said.
Ajit was detained in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh [ Images ] and was being brought to Delhi for interrogation, police sources said.
He would be produced in an identification parade before the 22-year-old victim before a formal arrest was announced, they added.
Police had earlier said that Ajit, wanted in many cases of burglary and auto-theft, was 'positively identified' by the woman from his photograph in a dossier.
The student was abducted near her house in south-west Delhi and raped in a moving car on Sunday.
Three of his accomplices are still missing, they added.
On Thursday, the police had released sketches of the accused based on the girl's descriptions.
In a fallout, the National Commission for Women summoned Police Commissioner K K Paul to discuss the security of women in the city.
