Two men -- an autorickshaw driver and his accomplice -- were held on Thursday for allegedly raping a German tourist on the outskirts of Jodhpur city in Rajasthan, police sources said.

Shankast Lal, the driver, and Rakesh had also stolen the woman's mobile phone and cash, Additional Superintendent of Police Hemant Sharma said.

"The arrests were made after cordoning off Dangiawas area of Jodhpur city," he added.

The 47-year-old woman from Frankfurt, who is an employee with Lufthansa airlines, had arrived in Jodhpur on Wednesday and had hired the auto-rickshaw in the evening, the official said.

She was allegedly raped some time between 2100 IST and 2200 IST in Dangiawas area, but the case was registered at Shashtri Nagar police station at around 0100 hrs, he added.

The victim was too traumatised to record a detailed statement and efforts were on to recover the items looted from her, the ASP said.
