Externment order against Shahabuddin lifted

The Siwan district administration on Monday withdrew the six-month externment order barring Rashtriya Janata Dal's controversial member of Parliament Mohammad Shahabuddin from entering the district.

Official sources said the ban order against Shahabuddin was withdrawn after the commissioner found it was a wrong decision.

During state assembly polls in February this year, District Magistrate C K Anil had banned Shahabuddin from entering Siwan district for six months under the Bihar Crime Control Act.

Shahabuddin had challenged the ban in the Patna high court.

The court directed to take the case to the lower court.

The order was challenged on the ground that Shahabuddin was a people's representative and the district magistrate could not debar him from meeting people.

Shahabuddin was granted bail in February this year by the Patna high court in a case relating to the kidnapping and murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist worker Munna Choudhury in 2001.

Last month, a joint team of the Special Task Force and district police raided residences of Shahabuddin and his relatives and recovered firearms, animal skins and foreign currencies.
