Congress president Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate a rural electrification project in Rae Bareli on March 30.
This will be the first big project promised by the Congress president in her election campaign.
Congress sources said the constituency had been neglected by non-Congress governments at the Centre and Uttar Pradesh.
The project envisages electification of the rural areas, setting up sub-stations and if things go on smoothly efforts would be to made ensure direct power supply from the NTPC to Rae Bareli and Amethi, the sources said.
They alleged that letters written by Sonia and Congrgess MP Rahul Gandhi, who represents the adjoining Amethi constituency, had not been heeded by the state government.
On Sonia's initiative, a Rs 300 crore project of the Ministry of Surface Transport for constructing a network of roads and bridges has already started with the grant being sanctioned to the state government.
Also on the anvil is a Rs 50 crore package for developing Saraspur Bird Sanctuary by Union Tourism Ministry.
Surveys have been conducted for developing the sanctuary with an eye on improving the tourist potential of the area, they said.
