There was jubiliation in the ancestral village of one of the two Kanishka undertrials, Ajaib Singh Bagri.

A Canada judge on Wednesday found millionaire businessman Ripudaman Singh Malik and Kamloops mill worker Bagri not guilty in the Air India bombing which killed all 329 people on board off the Irish Coast in 1985.

Kanishka: Public inquiry demanded

"As soon as the news of Bagri's acquittal spread, villagers started pouring in to our house to congratulate us," 23-year old Tirath Singh, nephew of Bagri, said in Chak Kalan village in Punjab.

The community was fervently praying when the news broke out that Bagri was acquitted of all charges.

Is the Kanishka verdict fair?

"I knew that my uncle was innocent. At last the truth prevailed thanks to God."

"We last saw Bagri in 1999, now we expect he will come to meet his parents," he said, adding that the family was waiting for a call from him.
