A day after firebrand Member of Parliament Sanjay Nirupam quit Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party on Thursday expressed willingness to take him into their fold.
However, Nirupam said he would take a decision on his new political address soon.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prabha Rau told reporters in Mumbai that the party is exploring the idea of inviting Nirupam.
"However, it is upto the party high command to decide since Nirupam is a member of the Rajya Sabha."
Asked if Nirupam had contacted party leaders to express his desire to join, Rau said she is not aware of any such move.
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said doors of the Congress were open to all who subscribed to the Congress ideology and were ready to accept Sonia Gandhi's leadership.
In Delhi, Congress spokesman Anand Sharma, when asked if Nirupam was joining the party, he said he was not aware of this.
NCP spokesperson Vasant Chavan said in Mumbai that the party may induct Nirupam.
"If he approaches us and agrees to abide by our policies, we will consider his request," he said adding a final decision in this regard would be taken by party chief Sharad Pawar.
Nirupam told reporters in Delhi, ""I am not going to retire. I will join some political party. I am not the kind who leads a one-man revolution. I am a professional and will not stay unemployed," he said.
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, when asked if Nirupam was to join his party, said "you should ask him about it."
SP general secretary Amar Singh said no efforts were being made to rope him into the party fold.
