Over 5,000 pilgrims visited the Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir ahead of the annual yatra, which starts on Tuesday, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board sources said.
The board said the yatra would continue between June 21 and July 5 from the Baltal route and not the Pahalgam one due to heavy snowfall in that region.
From July 6, the yatra would start from both sides after security arrangements and other facilities were put in place, the sources said.
A tentative date of June 29 has been fixed for the registration, they said, adding, Jammu and Kashmir Bank, the nodal agency in this regard, will soon announce its plan across the country.
"The yatra is going on smoothly without any untoward incident and we are sure it would continue this way with the support of the local people," the sources added.
